I have the Landscape book which I find very useful as I paint a lot outside, I have Schmids 1st book and after reading your blog I’m going to look into getting the second.

I really like your portraits and am still tempted to have a go at pastel portraits, after all I love drawing and I guess its drawing with colour, although it’s called.

Landscape Drawing in Pencil Frank M Rimes I didn't find this book very helpful. I appreciate this author's approach via presenting a picture and then discussing qualities, problems, solutions etc.

But in the sketchy (no pun intended) way he does it here, it is more like a lesson in drawing his specific picture(s)/5(). A classical drawing book on figure drawing.

Beginning with the bodies proportions to explain line work. As usual for books of this time, one can find some forgotten knowledge. The premise of this book is that to draw, paint, or sculpt well requires highly trained observational skills, and that one of the ways to develop these skills to practice memory drawing.

After a discussion of the history and science of memory drawing, the book then goes on to cover process, shape, value, and colour. Start with the focal point of your drawing, adding the details you see and shading them accordingly.

Then move on to the other parts of the composition. They'll have less overall detail than the focus of your drawing, which is what differentiates them. Finish your landscape drawing with the background and enjoy your newfound skill set. Lines are used to draw forms on a plan.

In plan view, they define plant beds and hardscape areas. Lines are also created by the vertical forms of built features and plant material. There are three primary line types that create form in the landscape: bedlines, hardscape lines, and plant lines.
