OUR SOULS AT NIGHT. The book is split into three sections, including a first one which alternates chapters between the time of Ellie’s disappearance and the present and a second section that begins as Laurel and Floyd meet. Both of these sections primarily focus on Laurel. Our Souls at Night, Kent Haruf’s last novel before his death, is the story of two individuals, Addie More and Louis Waters, who begin sleeping together platonically for the benefit of each other’s shared company. The two are not that well acquainted with each other, however, Addie decides to ask for the somewhat unorthodox arrangement.
