OUR SOULS AT NIGHT. The book is split into three sections, including a first one which alternates chapters between the time of Ellie’s disappearance and the present and a second section that begins as Laurel and Floyd meet. Both of these sections primarily focus on Laurel. In the third section, Jewell alternates narrators and moments in. Toward the end of “Our Souls at Night,” Louis says, “I just want to live simply and pay attention to what’s happening each day,” which probably comes pretty close to what Haruf wanted.
Dream quotes are little pearls of wisdom which help us gain insight regarding the true nature of our soul.
